The raw materials of silicon carbide are quartz sand, petroleum coke or anthracite, wood chips, etc., which are heated by resistance furnace at 2000 ºC .

Due to the chemical stability, high thermal conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good wear resistance and other characteristics of silicon carbide, silicon carbide has four main uses: functional ceramics, advanced refractories, abrasives, and metallurgical raw materials. Low content silicon carbide is an excellent deoxidizer, which can accelerate steelmaking speed, facilitate chemical composition control, and improve steel quality
